Announcing the Bicycle Business League Speaker Series Kick-Off
To get the Bicycle Business League Speaker Series rolling, we are pleased to announce that Aaron McBride of Pedal Nation has gratiously extended an invitation to all Bicycle Business League members to attend a lecture in conjuction with Pedal Nation's The Bicycle Show.
Introduction to Intellectual Property
Speaker: Shawn Kolitch, Ph.D. - Intellectual Property Attorney - Kolisch Hartwell
Bio: Dr. Kolitch is a former physics professor who focuses his law practice on intellectual property related to high-tech industries and emerging technologies, including renewable energy industries such as the bicycle, wind and solar power industries. Shawn has authored numerous publications in the areas of theoretical physics, physics education, Constitutional law, and intellectual property law, and has presented his work at conferences and seminars around the United States. He has received several awards for his research, teaching, and academic achievements.
In 2009, Shawn was recognized as one of Oregon's top up-and-coming attorneys when Oregon Super Lawyers magazine named him to its Rising Stars list.
Presentation Summary: Shawn will give a general description of the various types of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. I will then focus on a few important considerations for startup companies, such as how to choose a business name and protect it, and how to avoid infringing the intellectual property rights of others when introducing a new product.
